The Importance of Deep Conditioning

Whether you have colored, highlighted, or bleached hair, the importance of deep conditioning starts by using the right product to repair, nourish and hydrate from the roots to the ends. Not all hair masque and or deep conditioners work the same way. Here’s our advice on how to pick the best masque or deep conditioner for your color-treated, highlighted or bleached hair.

First of all chemically-treated hair typically will incur some damage from the processing and also will become dry especially when you add heat styling to your routine. If this is the case, then choose a hair masque that has protein, hydration, and if possible has bond building capability, especially if you are highlighting and or using bleach.

We recommend using COLURE’s Regenerative Hair Masque, this product specially formulated for color-treated, highlighted and bleached hair. This type of hair treatment can help reduce the amount of damage that your hair is being put through. If you’ve recently treated your hair with chemicals, it would be a good idea to invest in COLURE’s Regenerative Hair Masque to help reverse the damage by repairing and restoring the protein bonds in the hair shafts while hydrating and nourishing the hair.

To maximize the results when using a hair masque keep in mind before applying a masque is best to clarify the hair. Due to the dirt and product residue that builds up on the hair, this creates a barrier around the hair shaft, keeping it from absorbing protein, nutrients, moisture and even hair color. For best results, wash your hair with tepid water and COLURE’s Clean Start Shampoo. Rinse, then squeeze the excess water out of your hair with a towel and let it air dry.

Once your hair is dry, detangle it using a wide-tooth comb, and then, section your hair. Start applying the hair mask from the roots to the tips. Focus on the mid-length going down towards the tips as these are probably the most damaged areas. Be sure to run the comb through your hair again to ensure the hair treatment has completely covered each strand of hair.

Now it is time to let it process. To enhance the effectiveness of the hair masque, create a warm environment for your hair. You can do this by wrapping your hair with a hot towel and then keeping it on during the length of the treatment. You can heat up a towel by dipping it in hot water and wringing the excess water out. The processing time can range from 10-20 minutes for a more intense treatment.

Once the treatment processing is completed then rinse with cooler temperature water, this will help seal your cuticle while providing a youthful and vibrant appearance. Squeeze the excess water out of your hair using a towel and proceed to let your hair air dry.
