The Perfect Blow Out

On average consumers that visit a salon for a blow out service tend to leave looking like a hair model on a shampoo commercial, yet after that first few days and that first shampoo, that blowout is gone. Did you know it is possible to blow dry your hair like a professional at home?
It’s easier than you might think. With these simple tips and the right tools, anyone can learn how to blow dry their hair like a professional hair stylist.

One essential tip to a good blowout is the tools you use. For the best results, use a salon professional hair dryer. Look for a hair dryer with heat and speed control. Choose a dryer that has a concentrator attachment to target the air flow. A high-quality blow-dryer is worth the investment; The best ones are designed to minimize heat damage while providing quick drying and controlled styling. Also, choose one that will help with smoothness, promotes natural shine, and decrease frizz and flyaways.

The brush of choice is just as essential and determines the style. If you’re going for some curl, choose a round barrel brush that matches the size of curls you want. For sleek, straight hair, use a flat paddle brush.

The next essential tip is choosing the right styling product(s) that is beneficial for the blowout. COLURE has styling products that add body and volume to fine and limp hair. Such as COLURE Body Volume Mousse. When it comes to preventing frizz and create smoothness, we recommend COLURE Blow Dry Cream. If you have thick, curly hair, we suggest using COLURE Curl Wave Cream. Also, there are styling products with thermal protection that can actually help to prevent hair from becoming damaged. For this, we recommend COLURE Thermal Spray Plus.

Apply your favorite COLURE styling product to towel-dried hair, making sure to distribute it evenly throughout your hair. It’s essential to use a heat protecting spray to shield your hair from the high temperatures of the dryer. For this, we recommend COLURE Leave-In Spray Plus.

There are a few options when it’s time to pre-dry your hair. The goal is to get your hair approximately 75 percent dry before going in with your brush to style it. Either let the hair air dry until it reaches that level of dryness or, use a dryer to remove excess moisture before you start the blowout.
If you have a short fringe (bangs), dry them first. Use your brush to create the desired style, so they’re easier to control later.

Divide and comb hair into sections and secure with clips. Twirl hair into mini buns, two in the back and one on each side, this often works well. If you have thick hair, divide each section into a bottom and top sub-section to help manage the blowout. Begin with one part, then move on to the next one.

When starting the blowout. Starting at the roots, move your fingers through your hair. Lift up hair out a few inches and hold it while using the dryer to dry the section.
Now that your roots are dry, it’s time to move on to the brush of your choice: use a barrel brush for curls or a paddle brush for straight hair. In one direction, move the brush through your hair as you blow-dry. Follow the brush carefully with the nozzle and keep the dryer airflow pointed onto your hair.
As you start the blowout, apply tension with the brush and aim the dryer at the right angle, moving both in the same direction.

If you have wavy or curly hair and are going for a straight look, apply firm tension, as you move the brush away from the head, follow the brush close with the dryer. Concentrate the airflow across the brush in one direction. As you blow dry the hair, point the nozzle of the dryer down the hair shaft, never up. This helps to smooth the cuticle and helps prevent frizz.

To give your hair natural waves and body, dry your hair in three-inch sections, twirling the hair with your barrel brush as you go. Think about it as if you’re using the brush to create a spiral of hair. Make sure to twirl the front pieces away from the face, not towards the front.

The last step of each section is to hold the hair firm with the brush and blast it with the cooler air using the dryer’s cold-shot setting to set the style. Continue through all sections and finish with COLURE Strong Hold Finishing Spray and or COLURE Shine Serum Plus for a blowout that looks like you just left the salon.
